Arsenal are nearing an agreement to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres in a deal valued around €73 million ($86 million), according to sources speaking to ESPN.
Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing, with ESPN previously reporting that a deal was close earlier this month. However, the delay has reportedly stemmed from disagreements regarding the structure of performance-related add-ons.
Sporting are open to accepting an initial €63 million fee, with an additional €10 million in bonuses. However, they are pushing for more achievable conditions tied to those extra payments. Once the final terms are settled, the move is expected to progress rapidly, as Gyökeres has already agreed personal terms and a five-year contract with Arsenal.
Arsenal’s pre-season continues with a clash against AC Milan in Singapore on Wednesday, followed by a match with Newcastle on Sunday. They’ll then head to Hong Kong for a showdown with Tottenham.
Gyökeres has been in outstanding form for Sporting, netting 97 goals in just 102 appearances, and playing a key role in their consecutive Primeira Liga title wins.
Meanwhile, defender Cristhian Mosquera has arrived in Singapore to finalize his move from Valencia, with the two clubs agreeing on a €15 million fee.
