Former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy has joined Serie A side Cremonese on a free transfer. The 38-year-old forward has agreed to a one-year deal, with the option of an additional season if the newly-promoted club secures survival in Italy’s top division.

Vardy, who signed for Leicester back in 2012, had been without a club since leaving the King Power Stadium at the end of his contract in June. Widely regarded as one of Leicester’s greatest players, he played a crucial role in the club’s historic Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 season.

Over his time with the Foxes, he scored 200 goals in 500 appearances and lifted the FA Cup in 2021. On the international stage, he netted seven goals in 26 matches for England.

Cremonese have made a strong start to the new Serie A campaign, claiming wins over Sassuolo and AC Milan. Vardy could make his debut for the Italian club on September 15, when they travel to face Hellas Verona.
