Cristiano Ronaldo has declined to take the field for Al Nassr in their last two matches, played on February 2 and February 6. The Portuguese star added to the mystery by posting only a photo of a shining face and a thumbs-up emoji on his social media, leaving fans speculating about the reason behind his absence.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano also clarified that Ronaldo’s decision is not related to any injury, workload concerns, or fitness management.
The real issue appears to be the 1985-born superstar’s dissatisfaction with the way Al Nassr’s management is being run. During the winter transfer window, the Riyadh club failed to sign any new players, despite the clear need to strengthen the defense in order to compete with Al Hilal for the league title.
Gulf Times reported that Al Nassr had reached an agreement to sign a top-level European goalkeeper in January to address the team’s needs. However, the deal collapsed at the last moment when the club’s CEO and staff were surprised to find their authority frozen. The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) reportedly did not approve the release of funds to Al Nassr.
Ronaldo’s absence is a significant blow for the team. The veteran forward, who is approaching 41, has started 18 matches this season and scored 17 goals.
Even in the 3-0 win over Al Kholood, which reduced the gap to Al Hilal to just three points, fans noticed Ronaldo’s unhappy expression. Al Nassr have won both matches played without him, but the situation around their star player remains a major talking point.
