Macclesfield FC Stun Defending Champions Crystal Palace in FA Cup Upset
Sixth-tier side Macclesfield FC produced one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history by defeating reigning champions Crystal Palace 2-1 to secure progression to the next round.
The two teams met in the FA Cup Round of 32, with non-league Macclesfield hosting Premier League opposition at the Leasing.com Stadium. Despite the gulf in status, the home side delivered a disciplined and determined performance.
Macclesfield took the lead shortly before halftime when Dawson found the net in the 43rd minute. The advantage was doubled in the 61st minute through Buckley, sending the home crowd into celebration. Crystal Palace managed a late response as Pino scored in the 90th minute, but it was not enough to prevent elimination.
