Real Madrid Sack Xabi Alonso After Super Cup Defeat, Appoint Álvaro Arbeloa as New Head Coach

Real Madrid have officially parted ways with head coach Xabi Alonso following their 3–2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. The club confirmed that the decision was made by mutual agreement, bringing an end to Alonso’s tenure as first-team manager.

In an official statement, the Spanish giants praised Alonso’s legacy at the club and expressed gratitude for his service. Real Madrid highlighted that Alonso, a former midfield star and club legend, consistently represented the club’s values both on and off the pitch.

“Real Madrid announces that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his role as head coach of the first team,” the statement said. “As a legend of Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso will always have the love and respect of all Madridistas. Real Madrid will forever be his home.”

The club also thanked Alonso and his entire coaching staff for their dedication and hard work, wishing them success in their future careers.

Xabi Alonso’s Record at Real Madrid

During his spell in charge, Xabi Alonso managed Real Madrid in 28 official matches, achieving:

  • 20 wins

  • 3 draws

  • 5 defeats

Despite a strong overall record, the recent Super Cup loss to Barcelona proved decisive in the club’s decision.

Álvaro Arbeloa Named New Real Madrid Coach

Just minutes after announcing Alonso’s departure, Real Madrid revealed that Álvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as the new head coach. The former Real Madrid defender was previously in charge of Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve team.

Arbeloa now takes over the senior squad as Real Madrid look to stabilize their season and compete for major trophies.
