Gianluigi Donnarumma has revealed he will leave Paris Saint-Germain following his omission from the squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Italy international addressed the fans: “To the special Paris supporters, from my first day here I gave everything—on and off the pitch—to earn my place and protect the PSG goal. Sadly, someone has decided I can no longer be part of the group or help the team succeed. I am deeply disappointed and saddened.”
Earlier, head coach Luis Enrique took full responsibility for the decision, calling it one of the most challenging of his career.
"Donnarumma is unquestionably one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and an even better person," Enrique told Sky Italy. “But this is the reality of elite football. I am entirely responsible for this call. If these choices were simple, anyone could make them—they are about finding the profile that best fits what my team needs.”
