Chelsea have secured the signing of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato in a deal worth £37 million. The 19-year-old Dutch international has signed a seven-year contract after successfully completing his medical in London over the weekend.
Hato becomes the Blues’ eighth addition of the summer as the FIFA Club World Cup holders continue to strengthen their squad.
"I'm thrilled to be here — it's an exciting moment for me," Hato said. "I gave a lot of thought to the next step in my career, and I believe Chelsea is the perfect place for my development. I'm really happy with this move."
A product of Ajax’s renowned youth academy, Hato broke into the first team at just 16 years old. Versatile in defence, he is comfortable playing both as a centre-back and a left-back. He captained Ajax at the age of 17 and made 111 senior appearances for the club.
On the international stage, Hato debuted for the Netherlands in 2023 against Gibraltar and has since earned six caps.
