Lamine Yamal strengthened his case for this year’s Ballon d’Or shortlist by scoring twice in Barcelona’s dominant 5-0 win over Como in the annual Joan Gamper Trophy on Sunday.
The 18-year-old forward struck once just before halftime and again shortly after the restart, showcasing his trademark composure and precision. Fermín López had opened the scoring early and doubled his tally later in the first half, while Raphinha also found the net before the break to give Barça a commanding 4-0 lead.
Yamal’s second goal was a classic finish, sweeping in a first-time left-footed strike from Ferran Torres’ pass, sealing a comfortable night for last season’s LaLiga champions at Johan Cruyff Stadium.
The result capped off a perfect preseason so far for Hansi Flick’s side, following victories over Vissel Kobe and FC Seoul during their tour of South Korea. Barcelona will kick off their league title defence on Saturday with an away fixture against Mallorca.
Yamal joins teammate Raphinha among the Ballon d’Or nominees, alongside stars such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé. The prestigious award will be presented on September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
